Short Story

“The artwork features a common aesthetic throughout.  A calm atmosphere, achieved through a language of minimalistic forms and a white-base with a subdued colour palette, hiding an underlying tension.  The dialogue between presence and absence, between void and unspecified meaning, disclosure and scrutiny leads the observer quickly into the depth of multiple meanings.
The work – ‘Anna’ – based on sentences taken from FBI surveillance tapes made public, relates to the 2010 investigation into ten Americans accused of being Russian spies.  The text taken from the investigation was sewn into men’s shirts like labels. This series of images titled Short Story, Anna, after the media interest in one of the accused, the glamorous Anna Chapman.  The coded words and broken sentences used between the man and woman taped, supposedly involved in espionage, sounded more like an intimate conversation. For Lahav it was like a love story…”
