“The boundaries between truth and reality are key to these legends and to these artists work\u2026 Accompanying Vered Lahav’s series of photographs, Evidence of a Fairy Tale is the following text:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This work is based on an article found in a May 1968 edition of the Times Newspaper. The article outlined the extraordinary discovery made by bailiffs while clearing a small cottage in the village of Ellwood, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our imagination is immediately seized. Is this a modern equivalent of the Cottingley fairies? Why have we not heard of this before? The Forest of Dean IS a mysterious place, a place of thick native forest and a place of ancient caves. Could it have hidden fairies? We look closer. The images are on a large scale, minimal and document the work in almost forensic manner. Each object is laid out flat, on a grey background, every detail is captured and the objects are in a clearly defined order. The work references minimalism, it subverts it through a warmth poetic beauty. It’s quietness lets the viewer meditate on the objects and devise their own histories to them. The order of the works clearly hints at a narrative. But what is the story? And is it true? Like all the best fairy tales, that is left to the imagination.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
